Today was Laney’s 26th birthday. It was a difficult day for my wife and myself. We spent the weekend in Fort Collins with Shane (her love) and his family. Driving home through Denver, I smiled as we passed by Coors Field.

I took Laney to her first baseball game with the Colorado Rockies in 2011. I had no clue she was interested in the game until she came home from school, super excited about a field trip to a minor league game with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. She really enjoyed it :)

A good friend of mine from church, David Guthrie, loved going to Rockies games and I was discussing Laney’s interest one day over our regular morning coffee visits at Starbucks. He mentioned he goes all the time and we should all grab a game together. Super fun day!

When I returned to work, I told a coworker and friend about our wonderful adventure. He was an avid Rockies fan who purchased multi-game ticket packages and often had tickets he couldn’t use. Before long, I began picking up tickets for several games each season. For many years to come, Laney and I attended four or five Rockies games each year, creating many more wonderful memories together.

We had the first of several “Best Day Ever” days. I had no idea how it would progress. We went to our next game by ourselves, taking the light rail from the Arapahoe Station to downtown Denver. She came up with a great game of “Frogger” for us to play together on the foot-bridge crossing the interstate.

I thought is was neat to snap a pic of her in front of the statue to mark the fact we were at the game. I was not thinking about watching her grow up in front of the statue though.

We cought our last game in 2023. Laney was highly annoyed taking the light rail into the city that day as there was a Taylor Swift concert and all the Swifties were making it difficult for us to get on the train.
